The Liliir Education Project seeks to promote and enhance literacy and education in war-torn Sudan. The Project attempts to address the fundamental issues behind the vast educational injustice and inequality by building a secondary school and providing scholarships to disadvantaged students. The need for schools and quality education is as great as ever. While this project is yet to be realized due to the ongoing conflict in Sudan, Stuart Silk Architects continues to work toward making this project a realization.
The proposed design takes its inspiration from the University of Virginia designed by Thomas Jefferson. The axial arrangement of the buildings terminating at the circular library provides a protected central quadrangle and campus to focus on learning and education. The secondary axis leads out to the soccer and play fields, promoting physical well-being and supporting the need for places to gather.
