Architecture is, above all, here for a better living. Every gesture, every shape must be justified by various reasons that would reinforce their reason to be, their use, and will give more sense to their beauty.
~ Christian de Portzamparc

Karen works on a range of traditional and contemporary custom residences as well as a number of commercial group projects. While she enjoys many aspects of her work at Stuart Silk Architects, Karen is particularly excited to be part of our Green Team, dedicated to advancing sustainable building practices and materials while maintaining the exacting standards of design and detail for which Stuart Silk Architects is known.

Prior to joining Stuart Silk Architects, Karen spent over ten years as a practicing attorney, primarily in the areas of commercial litigation and public defense appeals. She served for eight years on the Board of Directors of the Washington Appellate Project, and she remains an active member of the Washington State Bar Association and the Environmental and Land Use Law Section.

Karen graduated with honors from Northwestern University, received her J.D. cum laude from Boston University School of Law, and was awarded her M. Arch. from the University of Washington where she was a member of the Tau Sigma Delta honorary society.

She has two teenage sons and enjoys participating in the many cultural and outdoor opportunities that Seattle affords.
