19 May Stuart Silk Architects partner with Architects Without Borders to design the new Community Technology Center in Coope, Uganda
Congratulations and special thanks to Stuart Silk Architects volunteers Carrie Anderson, Brittney Davis, Karen Chiu, Mathew Su’euga and Kim Pham who have partnered with the Seattle Chapter of Architects Without Borders to design the new Community Technology Center in Coope, Uganda!
The nearly 4,000 square foot technology center will be sustainably built with a site cast concrete columns and beams infilled with locally produced bricks. Louvered doors and windows will provide security along with natural daylight. Exposed wood trusses, ceiling fans and gable end vents will promote passive ventilation. 100% of its power will come from photovoltaics. Rainwater collection is planned for storm water management and irrigation.
The Coope Community partnered with an NGO, BOSCO-Uganda, the Puget Sound Chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB) and the Seattle Chapter of Architects Without Borders (AWB) in 2014.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2017, but is contingent on fund raising.
